# Mythology, Part I: Origins # CreationĪccording to Norse creation myths, the yawning void called Ginnungagap once dominated all creation. Asgard and Midgard were connected via the great rainbow bridge known as the Bifrost, making it possible for deities to influence the humans who adored and abhorred them in equal measure. Intrepid travelers, both mortal and divine, could and did traverse the liminal spaces between worlds. Though the realms were distinct from one another, their boundaries were surprisingly porous. Their position within Yggdrasil determined both their core characteristics and their connections to other realms. The Nine Realms hung on the branches, or else grew from the roots and bole of Yggdrasil, the world tree, which gave structure and form to the cosmos. These realms were Asgard, the near-perfect home of the Aesir deities Jotunheim, the fallen world of the monstrous jötunn Midgard, the land of humans Alfheim, home of the elves Hel, a resting place for the dead Vanaheim, the world of the magical Vanir deities Nidavellir, the subterranean realm of the dwarves Niflheim, a frigid land of ice and snow and Muspelheim, a realm of heat and flame. So, the plot will revolve around their actions to protect them and keep this news a secret.While gods such as Odin and Thor traveled between the Nine Realms frequently, mortals generally had to wait until after death to see a realm other than Midgard.Īccording to Norse cosmology, the known universe was composed of Nine Realms. And, at some point, a group of kids encounters a small group of dragons themselves. A geological discovery leads to humanity’s rediscovery of those beasts. In this age, humans have practically forgotten about their tumultuous history with the dragons until a breakthrough happens.

Hiccup talking with ToothlessĪccording to DreamWork’s official synopsis about the show, the series will take place in modern times. So one can expect no Vikings and basically no ancient setting.
The earlier setting for the movies has been the Viking age, but now the new series will take place 1,300 years after the time the movies were set in. In the last movie, we saw the dragons excommunicate themselves from the human world and relocate to a hidden world. Among the humans, only Hiccup, the protagonist, was able to befriend the dragon Toothless in his hometown of Berk. “How to train your dragon” franchise revolves around how humans and dragons co-exist in the same plain, either in constant conflict or in a state of hostility. With the apparent time jump in the new series, what can you expect? Modern age dragon and boy It seems like there has been a lot of effort to keep this whole thing very hush-hush. Seems like this will remain a secret, at least, until December. Until the rest of the official cast gets announced, fans will have to make do by speculating which other prominent voice actors might show up in it.

Although, one thing can be said for certain is that a well-known voice-over actor of the movie industry, Jeremy Shada, will be a part of it. Who will play the characters in this mysterious series? Jeremy ShadaĪs far as the plot and cast go, nothing has been made official just yet. But, what you can do is catch the cute little dragon series on Hulu and Peacock through a subscription.

Unfortunately, the new addition to the dragon series will not be aired on TV at all. When and how can you watch it? From the official teaser released by DreamWorksĪccording to DreamWorks’ official website, the series is slated to be released on December 23, 2021, with a 6-episode run.
